Beholding

Oh what a terrible past couple weeks it has been for our country. So much heartache and brokenness that nothing in this world can fix. When everything becomes too much and I feel so out of control, that is when I recognize my need for my savior in this world. People are so angry right now and I understand completely why. No one’s life is worth killing over political issues, children ought to be protected, and friends of different races deserve to feels safe. It is not worth arguing with others about what we consider to be right, but how am I going to fix it? By doing the only thing I know how to do best, writing. My job as a disciple of Christ is not to fix things myself but to plead and intercede to the one who can fix anything. Many people look at me when I say this and of course don’t believe me, but honey you’re missing out because you have no idea how big my God is nor the miracles He has performed in my life, the lives of those around me, and in this country. Recently the news has posted a lot of moral issues that us as Christians should be outraged about. If you have no idea what I'm talking about just turn to channel 3 and I'm sure that you will see how damaged and lost our world is. Yet, through all of this there is hope to cling to in our savior. That one day all of this will be washed away and we will be in paradise with Him.

There is a page on Instagram that posts paintings of Jesus washing the feet of those He loves. A couple weeks ago there happened to be a picture side by side of an ICE agent and Alex Perreti. The artist commented, “I don’t always like the people I draw, but I do it because this is the gospel”. Plain and simple people! It's Jeffrey Epstein in the seat, it's every government official in that seat, it's us in that seat. We don’t have to agree and we don’t have to like everyone but everyone is entitled to the same saving grace that rescued all of us when we were dead in sin. This is so hard for me to even comprehend how a Father can love someone that has done so much evil, but He does because we have done equally as much evil. As so much is happening in our world we ought to be "beholding" our savior, standing in awe that we serve someone who loves us so much. There is a book that I just finished reading by Strahan Coleman called beholding and it was about deepening your relationship with the father in prayer and in your everyday life. I highly recommend it because often times we feel as christians that we have to have these elaborate prayers thought out or that our lives need to be filled with Bible journaling and a whole assortment of things that revolve around our faith. While this is great, our lives ought to revolve around our posture towards Christ in our everyday lives. We behold God even when all we have to utter is a YHWH or hallelujah and that is enough for Him.

Tragedy is so hard and this world often dishes it out in more doses than a person should have to deal with. However, our God is so good and faithful to provide and we miss out on it most of the time. Sometimes I feel like these blog posts are like a broken record repeating the same things about the Lord's faithfulness, but I should never get tired of singing His praises for how He saved me. No matter whether you are talking to a brick wall or a crowd of people behold how the Lord has been so good to you. He deserves praise and glory from us at all times and in all circumstances and I hope that you all remember that today. Please join me in praying for the families of those who have lost their loved ones as well as the people who are lost in this world. May they all find the peace, love, grace, and mercy of God.

May the peace and love of God be with you always,
Leah Carpenter Hagaman
