I feel like a sailboat

Story time. For quite some time I have used Amazon music to create playlists and listen to music. I know what you're thinking... why in the world would you choose amazon? Well let me just tell you why. My mom has an amazon prime account and with the account you are automatically hooked up with a sweet music account if you have wifi and the songs are available without purchasing the extra package to get all of the music available on amazon. It's a total scam, but it was free for me. When I went on a beach trip with my friends I wanted something different, so for the low monthly price of $4.99 I got Spotify. It honestly blew my mind how much I was missing out on AND NO ONE TOLD ME! That being said I need to get to the actual point of this story.

One of my favorite artists is Ben Rector and of course I could not listen to his music with amazon. So, the first thing I did was download every single album. As I was listening to each of his fantastic songs, I came across "Sailboat". Oh my goodness it is a tear jerker I'm not going to lie. But while this guy in the song is on his sailboat he learns that he is at the mercy of the wind and all he wants is to go home. This guy you can tell is just so lost looking for his purpose, and being the way that I am I feel like him sometimes too. I question am I doing the right thing? Is God's purpose for me lined with the direction I'm headed? Am I doing enough? So many questions and not nearly enough time to answer them in the three minutes and fifty-five seconds that Mr. Rector allows. That being said, I have someone better to answer them and his name is Jesus.

No matter what you pick in life God's plan is always going to prevail. It reminds me of the story of Jonah, which if you haven't read it would highly recommend, it's in the middle of your bible and is only four short chapters! Jonah decides instead of sharing the gospel to the people of Nineveh he would run because he didn't think that they deserved it. A lot of theologists speculate that the people of Nineveh did bad things to Jonah’s parents, but still, as people of God we don't get to decide what He wants us to do. Being called to be His servant is a job that requires you to be okay with not knowing the reason why. You may have your own reservations but God’s purpose for your life is far greater than anything you could ever imagine. Feeling like a sailboat is not necessarily a bad thing, it’s simply waiting for God to let you drift where He wants you to go. I promise you that His plan is better, just trust Him. Despite the loneliness you may feel He is there and He is going to use this season to make you a better Christian and person overall.

May the peace and love of God be with you always,

Leah Carpenter
